Persistent Fisherman

Persistent Fisherman
By: Matt Neils Location: Lake Poygan, Wisconsin

One of my favorite fishing memories happened recently. Although I have many memories growing up, this recent one sticks in my mind. Lately, I have really gotten into fishing. I have tried to learn more, take it more seriously and really tried to target fish. Last summer I was fishing on Lake Poygan in central Wisconsin. I had been fishing this particular channel that went off the lake on a point. A week before I had gotten a fish up to the boat but lost it somehow. It was a big fish and I was really upset. I threw more casts out there but never got another bite. That fish haunted me for a couple weeks, and then next time I got up there I went back to the same spot. I made a great cast and immediately got a hit, but missed it. I spent about 20 more minutes working this point and finally I guess a Texas rig would be too good to resist and I finally caught a nice largemouth. It wasn't a world record but I was stoked because I worked so hard to get that fish, and I finally got it! That really propelled my love for fishing and can't wait to get the next one!
