Recipe: Crispy Garlic Parmesan Breaded Crappie

By Julia Swoboda June 11, 2014

If you took advantage of the spring spawn and hit the lakes to pull in some crappie, chances are your freezer is now overflowing with fillets just ready to be eaten. Two of the most popular ways to cook crappie is simply deep frying breaded pieces of the fillet or baking the fillets in olive oil or butter and adding a seasoning. While away at college this past spring, I had a Ziploc bag of fillets in my freezer. Since I didn’t own a fryer, and I wanted something other than the traditional baked lemon pepper fillets, I decided to create my own recipe.

Morel Mushroom Hunting

By Julia Swoboda May 03, 2013

The bounty of springtime is vast—more vast than most people realize. Every inch of nature thrives with new life. During this new season, the gifts which nature grants to its dwellers is at a peak. The colorful flowers, the green grass, the leaves on the trees, the fresh air, the perfect temperatures, the singing birds…I could go on and on. In my past two blogs, I have expressed my love of the outdoors as an angler and as a hunter. I posted about crappie fishing and about turkey hunting. In this article, I will step away from the hobbies of fishing and hunting wildlife, and step into the leisurely expedition of… foraging. Welcome to morel mushroom season.
